The Chief of Buru-Navio, Pe Adam Kwarasei II, a community at Paga in the Kasena-Nankana West district of the Upper East Region, who fled for his life when youth of the area threatened to lynch him, says this is the fifth attack on his life.
Naviopio Pe Adam Kwarasei II on Thursday narrowly escaped death after the youth of the town attacked his palace and succeeded in burning two houses.
Although they were unsuccessful because he escaped with the support of a motorcyclist, they youth attacked some of the elders in the Palace and burnt two houses at the palace.
Speaking on Eyewitness News on Friday from his hideout, the Chief said over 400 men stormed his palace on that on the day of the attack.
“Yesterday [Thursday] was my fifth attack. They attacked me at the High Court in Bolgatanga, at the Regional House of Chiefs; they attacked me on my way. Thursday’s attack was the fifth time, the men in my house were more than 400, well-armed with cutlasses, bow and arrows and other weapons.”
The Chief said he had heard of the attack a week ago and reported the matter to the Regional Police Command, “I called the BNI and informed them about it and I also made a complaint to the district commander.”
How Adam Kwarasei was attacked
“I was in the house when they surrounded the house just firing here and there but I managed to escape. Luckily, I met somebody on his way with a motorbike, he managed and escaped with me and brought me to the Navrongo Police station. As at now, I don’t have any personal security and I’m hiding somewhere.”
He said one of his elders was harmed with a cutlass and others harmed with sticks.
Why the attack?
Speaking on what may have motivated the attack on his life, the Naviopio, Adam Kwarasei, said when his father died about thirty years ago; the Paga people were grabbing their lands indiscriminately “so when I came I decided to put a stop to it.”
“Currently, they have constructed a Senior High School on our land without any permission which I raised concerns about it. The Paga Chief said because of that he will de-skin me; but I said he can’t do that and that is where everything started. The case is before the Regional House of Chiefs and the High court,” he added.
According to the Chief, he had been invited to meet a supposed conflict mediating team but he avoided them because he had information they had plotted to forcibly de-skin him.
