On Tuesday, 20th of March 2024, Ghana claimed all three top International Excellence Awards. The awards instituted by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) is to honor former candidates with exceptional performance at the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
This year’s awards saw only winners being males. As these boys mounted the podium to receive the award at the Council Meeting in Freetown, Sierra Leone. The occasion was graced with the Head of WAEC Ghana. St James Seminary picked two of the topmost awards of the 2023 WASSCE written by a total of 2,327,342 candidates from the five-member countries of the council.

WINNERS
The first outstanding and over all best student was, Amo-Kodieh Leonard Kofi Marton. He is an old boy of St James Seminary Senior High School (SHS). Leonard is currently reading Medicine at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. He topped with a score of 623.5512.
Coming in second place was, Dzandu Selorm. He is also an old boy of the Labone SHS. Additionally, he is reading medicine at the KNUST. He came in second with a score of 623.1882.
Simular to the winner is another former St James Seminary SHS student, Daniel Asenso-Gyambibi, currently at the Ashesi University took the third place with 622.4438.
To be considered eligible for an Excellent Award, a candidate must obtain a grade A1. The A1 should be in at least eight subjects, including English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Health Sciences and Integrated Science as well as one subject category of the core subjects.
CONTENTMENT
Commenting on the award, the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Dr. Eric Nkansah, congratulated the awardees for lifting the flag of Ghana high on such an international platform. Last year, two out of the three winners came from Ghana and this year, Ghana claimed all the three awards.
