Ghanaians demanding a time shedule for the recent and frequent power cuts have been asked to make one for themselves. In the past three months, Ghana has been experiencing power outage quite frequent than normal. The Ghanaian citizenry faces a lot of challenge with the frequent power cuts. Business have slowed down, skin disease has increased due to the heat. There has not been any communique from the ECG about the issue and what the actual problem is.
The Minister for Energy, Dr. Matthew Opoku-Prempeh has said that Ghana has returned to the days of power cuts. also mentioned that for those who have called for a time table on the power cuts should go ahead and draft one themselves. He emphasized that by now Ghanaians should be able to tell the trend of the power cuts and draft their own time table.
He said, “Let those who want the timetable bring it. I don’t know of any timetable because the ECG has said it is not necessary. Why would someone just wish evil for the country?” he asked
Additionally, he mentioned that the current power outages in the country is not the same as the once popular ‘dumsor’. Additionally, that happened during the period when the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was in administration. He made the statement speaking at the inauguration of the NPP campaign team in the Ashanti Region.
Dr. Matthew Opoku-Mensah assured Ghanaians that efforts are on way to stabilize power in the country. Similarly, he added that improving the energy sector is a continuous process and that his ministry is committed to ensuring that the situation gets better. “I have promised you that I am going to work on it. It is not a work that is a single event, it is a process and we would continue to work on it for the energy sector to become better.”
The Energy Minister is in support of ECG’s decision not to bring out a timetable. Dr. Opoku Prempeh emphasized that such a timetable would only affect the country. Irrespective of the power outage crisis, Dr. Opoku Prempeh assures the nation that the situation is only an improvement. But for those Ghanaians who demand for a shedule for power cuts, they should make one themselves.
He resounded that the energy sector under the NPP administration is 300 times better than that of the NDC. He made a comparative analysis of their respective four-year terms. “If you are comparing four years four years, the NPP administration Energy Sector is 300 times better than that of Mahama.”
