Neymar supports former collegue. Neymar Junior helped Dani Alves with some cash in his sexual assault case. The two were both players for Barcelona and PSG in the past. They both play for the Brazilian national team.
On the 15th of February, 2024 the Catalonia Court found Dani Alves guilty of sexual assault against the woman who accused him. The court then sentenced him to four and half years in prison. The said sexual assault occurred in 2022 at a night club in Barcelona one night.
Dani has been ordered by the court to pay 150,000 Euros to the victim. Alves was arrested in the early days of January 2023 and has been on remand since. The 40 year old was left stranded in Barcelona after this incident.
The footballer’s assets have been frozen after his divorce with his ex-wife Dinorah Santana. Dinorah is also suing the footballer for not paying her alimony. Information from the Brazilian outlet UOL, suggests that the footballer fell on Neymar for help. Neymar supports his former collegue.
Reports also claim that Alves transferred the said amount of 150,000 Euros to the court as ‘compensation for damages caused’. It is also alleged that the payment had a lot of influence on the length of sentence Alves received. The four year sentence is the minimum number of years served for sexual assault.
This case has been on the public table due to the fact that it is about gender violence and eradicating it. In 2022, a law was passed which recommended that you seek the consent of the other party before intercourse. In instances of sexual assault, the court would look out for the consent sought from the other party.
The court’s statement suggests that, the victim did not consent to the act. “The sentence considers that it has been proven that the victim did not consent. There is evidence, in addition to the testimony of the plaintiff, to consider the rape proven.
