There has been an update on Alves’ case. The ex-Barcelona and Brazil footballer Dani Alves is being released from jail. The release is on on a condition, he is being released after serving about a quarter of his sentence. He was sentenced to four and a half years in prison last February. Alves has however been given a bill of €1m (£853,000) to pay for his release.

Dani has been in police custordy since January 2023 during his pre-tial. He was however found guilty of raping a woman at a nightclub in Barcellona December 2022. Dani is made to turn in his two passprts so he can not leave Spain.These two passprts are his Brazilian and Spanish passports are conditions for his bial release.

Another condition is to appear in court every week. Additionally, the court  retrains him from approaching the victim. The update on Alves’ case was after his lawyer appealed to the court on grounds that he has been detained for a year and over. Hence the bail was granted in addition to the conditions.

WHAT HAPPENED

it was discovered in court that Alves and his friend had bought champagne for three young women. It was at that time that Alves lured one of them to a VIP area of the nightclub. The lady did not know that there was a toilet in the louge. It was also said that he started acting violent once they got into the toilet.

Additionally, Dani Alves began forcing the woman to have sex with him. The victim claimed she repetedly asked Alves to stop and that she wanted to leave. In his defence, Alves claimed that if truely the victim wanted to leave she could have. It was however proven that the victim did not consent to the sexual act.

Evidence found other than the victim’s testimony that proved that she had been raped. It shows Alves abruptly grabbing the victim and throwing her to the ground. It was at this point that he bagan rapping her preventing her from leaving the room.

EFFECTS

Rape cases have a lot of effects pn the victims. The woman said the rape had caused her anguish and terror, and uncontrollably  cry at times. Similarly, after leaving the bathroom where the incident happened, she cried bitterly.
