IS GHANA READY FOR TERRORIST ATTACKS?

GHANA LIABLE TO TERRORIST ATTACK.

Ghana over the years has enjoyed relative peace. But with each passing day our security is threatened. The porous nature of our boarders and the lack of data on citizens and people coming into the country, have made it more likely for such attacks.

Conversations about the safety of the country have been going on for several weeks. This is following various isolated crime incidents such as kidnappings, highway robbery among others.

WHY GHANAIANS SHOULD BE ALERT:

Crime rate has shot up by 7.7% since 2018. Murders and violence only with some described as contract killing.

Recent rise of kidnappings in Ghana with almost 70 cases, is nothing to write home about.

These are all minor terrorism. Take a look at Nigeria, look at how terrorism has made the North been cut from socio-economic development due to the presence of Boko Haram.

Take a look at the properties and lives lost due to Boko Haram. Ask yourself, Does Ghana have the police strength and army capacity to curtail terrorism attack? The very security officers in the security service cannot be trusted due to their corruptible nature.

Somewhere in May this year, the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority seized a forty-feet container loaded with guns imported from the US. This is alarming, considering the threats of terrorism at the northern parts, the persuasive vigilantism and extreme robberies across the length and breadth of the country.

Is Ghana ready for terrorist attacks?

With the just ended VGMAs, had someone been a suicide bomber, would he be noticed? What measures were put in place to ensure quick eviction of audience to prevent many casualties as possible? Ghana is a country where its citizens and leaders take security for granted.

There is the belief that Ghana is blessed so we are beyond terrorist attacks. But mind you it is happening in Burkina Faso and it can happen here anytime soon. Starting with what happened in the Upper West, where someone went to church with a gun.

There is no need to play politics with this issue. Security must be heightened at major public places and malls.
