Barcelona have revealed their new away kit ahead of next season, choosing to blend together the famous red and blue home colours for the first time.
The result is a unique and bold purple look for the new Nike Vapor strip with with AeroSwift technology.
The Catalan giants, on their official website, said the latest design ‘continues Barcelona’s tradition of playing in vibrant away colours that shock and excite, while also reasserting their classic home colours together in an unprecedented new fashion.’
The replica shirts are priced on the official Barcelona online shop at £65, with the kids version £28.
The ‘Vapor Match’ version, modelled by Andres Iniesta, Gerard Pique, Neymar, Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez in publicity shots, is available at £100.
The new shirt and shorts are a deep purple with vivid pink details matching the socks.
Club captain Iniesta said ‘the fusion of the traditional red and blue makes this shirt shocking, but at the same time really linked with our history. In addition, thanks to the new technology we feel much more agile and fast.’
The chest area features a geometric pattern with the intention of creating a ‘more powerful appearance.’
The word ‘Barça’ is knit alongside a small woven Catalan flag on the modern v-neck collar as well as ‘Un Crit’ and ‘Valen,’ which together mean ‘Our Cry is Bold’ in Catalan.
As of yet there is no sponsor, with the Spanish giants demanding £55.6m a season to close any potential deal.
According to RAC 1, retail giants Amazon will fight Qatar Airways, whose agreement with Barca expired on June 30, for the role.
The issue should be resolved shortly with negotiations having to be completed within a matter of weeks as the Catalans plan to debut their new sponsor in their first pre-season game, a friendly against Celtic on 30 July in Dublin.
That game could see the club’s hat-trick of signings Samuel Umtiti, Lucas Digne and Denis Suarez make their first appearance for their new employers.
A fourth forward is also expected to be brought in this summer to support Neymar, Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi as the Catalans bid to wrestle back their Champions crown from arch-rivals Real Madrid.
