COURTS WITHOUT MODEL DESIGNS WILL BE CLOSED- CHIEF JUSTICE

The Chief Justice of the Republic of Ghana, Mrs. Sophia Akuffo has cautioned that, the Kasoa Magistrate Court in the central region  will be closed down by the end of the year if it does not adheres strictly to the model design of all court.

This resulted from her displeasure of the situation in the Kasoa District Court during her four-day tour of courts in the region.

The magistrate at the Kasoa District Court, Felicia Gandezi in explaining the situation she told the Chief Justice that, she including the workers does not have a washroom in their office. So she was forced to use a chamber pot to attend to nature’s call due to the absence of a washroom at her facility.

The court shares the same facility with the Assembly but has not been provided with a washroom.

Due to this, she is compelled to use the chamber pot when at work and to constantly empty the content in order to avoid an unpleasant smell at the premises. This is the hardships she has been enduring in her bid to deliver justice.

Gandezi further expressed that, the situation makes them uncomfortable but added that the chamber pot was their only option.

The Chief Justice who was shocked by the revelation said, “I haven’t looked at a chamber pot since my daughter was a baby. This is terrible”.

Mrs. Sophia Akuffo who was unaware of the situation until now has promised to put up an association fit for the purpose of the court.

She further emphasized that, “We should not have accepted this. We should not be sharing facilities with anybody. Kasoa is a very prosperous Municipality; we are going to have to build a purposely designed [court]. We don’t want this…this is totally unsuitable”.

The Chief Justice, Mrs. Akuffo has vowed to close all courts with buildings that do not meet model designs.
