Real Madrid the big winners in MARCA Football Awards

Cristiano Ronaldo was the big winner in the MARCA Football Awards, claiming the best player and best attacker titles, as more than 1,200,000 fans voted on Facebook.

Although there was no award for Atletico Madrid forward Antione Griezmann, Los Rojiblancos were not left empty handed as Diego Simeone was voted best head coach, with people from more than 191 countries casting their opinion.

Also nominated for best coach were Barcelona’s Luis Enrique and Villarreal’s Marcelino.

Ronaldo pipped Barcelona duo Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi to the MVP award, as the Portuguese striker has enjoyed another excellent campaign that has seen him register 33 league goals.

It was almost a clean sweep of awards for Real Madrid, as Keylor Navas picked up the goalkeeper of the year trophy, palming off competition from Jan Oblak and Claudio Bravo.

Brazilian defender Marcelo took the defender of the season trophy, with Barcelona’s Gerard Pique and Atletico Madrid’s Diego Godin missing out.

Croatian midfielder Luka Modric kept the awards for Real coming, as he beat fellow nominees Andres Iniesta and Sergio Busquets to claim midfielder of the year.

The goal of the season also went to a Los Blancos player, with Colombian James Rodriguez scooping the award for his sublime goal against Real Betis.

Neyamar’s wonder goal against Villarreal and Antione Griezmann’s superb early season effort at Real Sociedad were the other strikes up for the award, as Zinedine Zidane’s men dominated the majority of the award categories.
