Police dismiss 2 officers attempting to extort Dutch tourists in viral video

The Nigeria police have dismissed two special constabularies, Jimoh Lukmon and Kareem Fatai, who were caught in a viral video trying to extort money from a Dutch tourist who was on a power bike en route to Abuja.

Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Adebola Hamzat, pronounced their dismissal at the state’s Police Headquarters on Thursday.

Lukmon and Fatai, who were on duty along Moniya-Iseyin road were seen in the video demanding money from the woman.

Following the incident the two Special Constabularies were arrested and a disciplinary procedure was instituted.

The Commissioner stated that, he has affirmed the recommended punishment of dismissal for the pair.

He said they seize to be members of the Special Constabulary with immediate effect and hope that their dismissal will serve as a deterrent to others.

The video was widely circulated as it was a comparison between the Ghanaian and Nigerian force. While the two Nigerian constables fell suspects to extortion, the Ghanaian officer was of immense help to the tourist, in accordance to the law.
