“THE NDC IS INTENTIONALLY FRUSTRATING THE PROCESS”- BERNARD OKO-BOYE

Member of Parliament for the Ledzokuku Constituency, Honourable Bernard Oko-Boye has further explained the views he made against the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on the Ghana Card issues.

He made these claims on ‘Omanbapa Kasa Show’ with the host, Kofi Asamoah Aning on Pink FM. He stated that, “the NDC is intentionally frustrating the process”.

According to him, the NDC supports the idea of using the Voter Identification Card (ID) as a requirement for the registration of the Ghana Card. But that process will lead to the validation of the status of foreigners as Ghanaians, hence, the Voter ID card cannot be used.

Hon. Oko-Boye added that, the Minority (NDC) were part of the law-making process concerning the making of the Ghana Card.

He made mention that, the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) Card was agreed not to be used as a requirement for the registration of the Ghana Card. This was because a person, not necessarily a Ghanaian, who has lived in the country for more than 6 months, can acquire the NHIS card.

Also, since the NHIS was a requirement for the registration of the Voter ID card, it led to the bloating of the National Register, hence, the Voter ID card cannot also be a requirement for the registration of the Ghana Card.

Hon. Oko-Boye stressed that, the driver’s license cannot also be a mode of registration for the Ghana Card since questions asked when acquiring a driver’s license doesn’t reflect the status of a true Ghanaian.

He continued by saying, “the Ghana Card should rather be used as a requirement for acquiring the Voter ID Card and not the other way round”.

According to him, “the agreed processes with regards to the registration of the Ghana Card are the same as the processes been implemented by the National Identification Authority. That is why it comes as a surprise with the way the Minority is behaving. Parliament has a record of everything they said with regards to the Ghana Card issue.”

Hon. Bernard Oko-Boye claimed that, Hon. Kofi Boah, Former Minister of Energy, supported the idea of using the birth certificate and passport for registering the Ghana Card.

The Honourable went on to complement the Government for undertaking such a project, claiming “it is the first thing any serious government who wants development will do”. Mr. Oko-Boye furthered by saying the project will help know the accurate number of people when making analyses.

The MP also explained that individuals who have birth certificates can go ahead to register for the Ghana Card and also stand in as witnesses for those who do not have birth certificates.

The Honourable agreed to the fact that there’s no method which does not have its flaws, hence, the use of the birth certificate and the passport has its weak points but cannot be compared to that of the NHIS and the Voter ID cards.
