Messi should be acquitted from trial

As Lionel Messi‘s tax evasion trial continues, the prosecutor believes the star should be acquitted, although that sentiment was not extended to his father Jorge.

With just days to go until Messi is due to captain Argentina at the Copa America, he is in Catalonia facing accusations of tax evasion in relation to his image rights from between 2007 and 2009 – over four million euros in total.

Both parties have maintained no wrongdoing throughout and though Raquel Amado says the player shouldn’t be found guilty, she is adamant that his father should face consequences.

“If there is any doubt, Lionel Messi should be acquitted,” she said.

“Any fraud is down to his father, who is the alter-ego in economics management.”

Should the pair be found guilty, they will face up to the prospect of 22 months and 15 days in prison, with the judge set to decide their fate in the coming days.
