Messi and Neymar fall from grace

The Estadio de Anoeta Stadium and Real Sociedad have brought the best Barcelona in history crashing down to earth for the sixth successive season.

The traditional fall from grace in San Sebastian has been fulfilled once again but, what is worse, is that the slump of Luis Enrique’s team has come at such a crucial time.

The Catalan club are letting themselves down on the pitch and in results.

Lionel Messi and Neymar are not working at their best, and it’s not normal for this Barcelona to leak points at such an alarming rate.

In the past three games, the results have been devastating – two defeats and a draw.

Seemingly, with Luis Suarez suspended the trident is broken.

At San Sebastian, the Argentinian and the Brazilian revealed the doubts that exist within the team.

Since their last international break, the Blaugrana have slipped up in attack and lacked precision in their final touches.

Messi had two half chances while Neymar only looked lively for a free kick which went just wide of the post.

They will certainly need to step up to the plate at the Estadio Vicente Calderon on Wednesday, but Messi and Neymar are not the only problems.

The midfield is also guilty of under-performing and their important signing Arda Turan is not fitting in.

In El Clasico, the Turkish player’s introduction upset the balance of the game and he was just as disorganised on Saturday.

To make matters worse, he also picked up his fifth yellow card so will be out of action for the next game.

In defence, Jeremy Mathieu’s injury limits the rotation of the back four with Dani Alves, for example, going to the Calderon probably in need of a rest.Real Sociedad 1-0 Barcelona
