Jonathan Mensah returns to Ghana for herbal remedy on ankle injury.

Russia-based defender Jonathan Mensah has returned to his native Ghana to treat an ankle injury he picked up while on international duty.

Mensah, who plays for top-flight side Anzhi Makhachkala, has been given permission by his club to return home to take a herbal remedy.

The Ghana international suffered the setback during his country’s 2-0 defeat to Egypt in a 2018 World Cup qualifier three weeks ago in Alexandria.

GHANAsoccernet.com understand that the former Evian man decided to come home to continue his treatment after it became clear that he will not be playing for the next two to three weeks.

The 26-year-old has been a pillar in defense for the Black Stars in the last six years.

The Ghana international  partnered Leicester City multi-purpose player Daniel Amartey as center backs but their efforts could not thwart an Egyptian team who run out 2-0 victors on the day.
