GIROUD MATCHES ZIDANE’S GOAL SCORING RECORD FOR FRANCE.

The 31-year-old Chelsea striker equalled Zidane’s goal scoring record for France after netting his 31st goal in a 2-0 friendly over Ireland.

Zinedine Zidane got his goals in 108 appearances but it took the striker 73 games to move joint fourth in the chart of France’s leading goal scorers.

Olivier Giroud now seeks to overtake David Trezeguet who is three goals better off and move into third place. In addition to Trezeguet, only Michel Platitni and Thierry Henry who have netted 41 and 51 goals respectively have found the back of the net more times for the national team.

Giroud who happens to be a member of France’s 23-man squad to partake in this year’s world cup in Russia also said, equalling Zidane’s record is an honour and no one can take that away from him.
