GERARD DEULOFEU PERMANENTLY JOINS ‘THE HORNETS’ FROM FC BARCELONA

24-year-old Spanish international winger, Gerard Deulofeu permanently joins Watford on a five year deal from FC Barcelona for a reported fee of €13m plus €4m in variables.

The winger was only nine years old when he joined Barcelona’s youth academy (La masia) in 2003. He then made his Barcelona B debut under Luis Enrique in 2011 in a 4-1 away win against Cordoba. At age 17 in April 2011, he was promoted to the first team where he made his senior debut on August 3 that same year in a 1-4 friendly loss to Guadalajara.

During the 2013-2014 season, Deulofeu was loaned to Everton and returned permanently in 2015 to his parent club (Barcelona) after a disappointing loan spell at Sevilla. He joined AC Milan on loan for the 2016-2017 campaign then went back to Barcelona last summer.

He later spent the 2nd half of last season (2017-2018) on loan at Watford, scoring once (against Chelsea) in 7 league appearances. He has represented Spain at the under-19, under-20 and under-21 levels and was named the UEFA Under-19 Championship Golden Player in 2012. In 2014, he had his first senior call up for the Spanish national football team in a friendly against Bolivia.

Scott Duxbury, Watford’s Chairman and CEO said in an interview that the club is pleased to welcome the winger back and thanked the current Spanish champions for concluding their part of the deal.
