Faure Gnassingbe, the Togolese president has been appointed the new chairperson of the Economic community of West African (ECOWAS) in Monrovia, Liberia’s capital.
He was announced at the 51st ECOWAS summit of the Heads of state which was held at Liberia for the first time on Sunday June 4th, 2017.
The chair position is a 12-month tenure which he took over from Liberian president Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.
The prime minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu congratulated the incoming chair person. He also invited the west African leaders to the African -Israel summit which will be held in Togo in October.
Faure Gnassingbe will assume the role at the end of the summit.
