C/R: Police Arrest 16 Suspected Robbers and Two Others For Stealing Conductor Cables for PDS

Sixteen suspected armed robbers have been arrested by the police in the Central region.

The suspects were arrested on the Kasoa-Winneba section of the N1 Highway.

At a media briefing, Chief Superintendent of Police Charles Kofi Adu, commander of the Kasoa division narrated that the suspects were arrested by the Kasoa Divisional Patrol team on April 8 2019 at around 2:40 am.

The sixteen suspects were occupying a sprinter mini bus with registration number GT 3738-16.

Upon an interrogation and a search, the police retrieved one foreign pistol with two live and one empty ammunition, 6 Samsung galaxy tablets, 6 Samsung galaxy hard drive, 9 assorted mobile phones and 3 Samsung smart phones together with assorted provisions.

The suspects were named as follows Gabriel Fusu,24, Francis Tetteh 24, Haruna Bilal,20, Azuma Yasuna,39, Addo Korankye,27 and Patrick Akoto,24.

Aikins Ayibbe,24, Ernest Bafuko,28, Fofonyo Wornyo,27, Enoch Tetteh,24, Bashiru Abubakar,24 were also named amongst the suspects including Yaw Mike who is aged 29, Jonathan Tattey Dissey,25, Afanu Kyi,28, Divine Abayatey,24 and Richard Agbeme aged 26.

Following the arrest, all suspects were taken to the Kasoa Divisional Police command for interrogation where the suspects mentioned that they had stolen the items from a warehouse at Agona Swedru.

According to the police, investigation is ongoing following which the suspects will be arraigned before court.

In a related development, two persons have also been arrested for possessing firearms without authority.

The suspects Ebenezer Okine and Nii Ayee Tagoe according the police were arrested on 5th April 2019 at Adam Nana, a suburb of Kasoa.

According to Chief Supo Charles Kofi Adu, the police team whiles on patrol duties conducted a random search of vehicles at Adam Nana and came across a Nissan Micra with registration number GW 9491-18 which was driven by one of the suspects Ebenezer Okine.

During the search, the police found one single barrel gun and a foreign pistol concealed in a cloth hidden under the front seat where suspect Nii Ayee Tagoe was sitting.

The two suspects were arrested and taken to the Kasoa Police Divisional Headquarters for interrogation during which suspect Nii Ayee claimed ownership.

On the 8th of April 2019, suspect Ayee Tagoe was arraigned before the Ofaakor Circuit Court and was remanded to police custody to reappear on 15th April 2019.

Meanwhile, the police also briefed the media about a case involving two persons who are suspected to have stolen some conductor cables belonging to the Power Distribution Services.

According to the police, suspects Seidu Alhassan and Kweku Eson were on the 6th of April 2019 arrested for stealing two drums of conductor cables valued at GHC 27, 000, a property belonging to the PDS.

Preliminary investigations conducted by the police revealed that the cables were stolen by the suspects at a PDS project site at Nkwantanan-Mamfam, Kasoa.

The suspects according to the police chief would be arraigned before court on 9th April, 2019 whiles investigations are ongoing.

Chief Supo Charles Kofi Adu however cautioned miscreants who have the idea to perpetrate any act of crime within the Kasoa enclave to rescind that rescission since the police have changed their strategies and are well vexed to clamp down on them.

He however admonished police officers to be more vigilant on the line of duty since criminals have adopted unsuspected means in their modus operandi.
