AFCON 2019: PENALTY WOES OF THE BLACK STARS CONTINUE

The penalty woes of the black stars of Ghana continues in the 2019 AFCON against Tunisia in the Round 16 stage.The consistency of the Black Stars of Ghana losing matches on penalty basis has become alarming. And a cause of worry for majority of Ghanaians.

Here is a chronology of Black stars’ penalty misses that have proved costly for the country in continental and intercontinental tournaments;

Firstly in 2010 World Cup, Ghana’s darling boy Asamoah Gyan missed the decisive penalty against Uruguay. Ghana eventually lost the match when the game was proceeded into penalty shoot-outs.

Secondly, in 2012 AFCON, Ghana again lost the match against Zambia. Asamoah Gyan missed a penalty again in the match.

Furthermore, Ghana lost to Ivory Coast in the 2015 AFCON final. Ivory Coast won the competition in that year.

Fast forward to 2019, the Black Stars has again failed to qualify for the quarter-finals of the African Cup of Nations. They lost to the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia on penalties.

What can the Black Stars do to rectify this bad omen of losing on penalties in subsequent competitions?

Till then,Ghana has failed once more and the wait for a trophy is still on the hunt.
