An actor, Lucky Deta, has been put before an Accra Magistrate court for sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl.
Deta was charged with rape, but his plea was not taken.
He was, however, remanded in police custody for two weeks.
Presenting the facts of the case to the court, Sergeant Lois Konadu said the complainant, Grace Kpodo, is the mother of the victim.
According to her, Deta on December 26, 2015, at 12.30 p.m. visited the victim’s brother but he was not around so he sent the girl to buy food for him.
When she brought the food, Deta followed her into the room and asked her to sit beside him, an invitation she declined.
Deta was said to have dragged her, pushed her unto the bed and forcibly had sex with her.
The prosecutor said in January 2016, the victim fell sick and was sent to hospital. Upon examination, the doctor discovered that she was pregnant.
Sgt Konadu said the victim then narrated her ordeal to her mother, who lodged a complaint with the police and on March 14, 2016 the accused was arrested.
