MAKE COCOA REPORTAGE YOUR PRIORITY, OBED OWUSU

Mr Obed Owusu Addai, Managing Campaigner for Eco-Care, has urged media practioners across the country to invest a lot of their time in the cocoa sector to make sure various stakeholders within the sector are held accountable to their commitment.

He is of the view that it will enable cocoa producers to ensure that forest and natural resource policies respect rights of local communities. And also, promote development and safeguard resources for posterity.

He spoke on Thursday, July 19th 2019 at a day workshop organised for media practioners on monitoring CFI commitments through Participatory Approaches(MoCCPA) project. Mr Addai said, the CFI process has become the main medium through which private – sector and government in collaborating to archive the commitment in the framework of Action.

“We want to see transformed and well-to-do communities protecting resources, contributing to national development and ensure that NRE policies address the needs of local people”, he also opined.

According to him Eco-Care Ghana seeks to build strategic partnerships with like-minded local and international organisations that share their principles and values (promoting gender-mainstreaming and equal opportunities for all; irrespective of race, religion or sex).

He added that, Eco-Care Ghana aims to create space through constructive citizen mobilization for the participation of local communities and other stakeholders in decision making process on natural resources and environment.

Mr Obed Owusu Addai, however stated that, forests are integral part of life of rural communities across Ghana. Also, they have spiritual connection to the forest.
