My Thoughts On The Subject.

Drug abuse is the illegal, over intake or excessive use of drugs. The term can also be defined as the use of drugs for purposes other than those for which they are meant to be use for.

The issue of drug abuse is affecting the country negatively in that a good percentage of the active and working labor of the country is at the mercy of drug abuse. This is decreasing labor,  productivity and incurring the government cost to treat mental illnesses caused by drug abuse in hospitals and asylums.

CAUSES OF DRUG ABUSE

The abuse of drugs has so many causes. Peer influence is one of the major causes of drug abuse, most individuals who are in the act of abusing drugs were mostly introduced to the act by their peers.

People with mental health illnesses sometimes abuse drugs to either fight the symptoms of the illness or deal with the side effects of the medicine used to treat their illness.

Loneliness can also cause people to abuse drugs in order to fight challenges like depression, anxiety and trauma.

EFFECTS OF DRUG ABUSE

The over intake of drugs or the abuse of drugs has effects like experiencing seizures, stroke, mental confusion and brain damages on the individual.

Drug abuse also costs the nation money that can be used for some development projects to be used in treating these individuals who have abused drugs so much and ended up in hospitals and asylums.

SOLUTIONS TO DRUG ABUSE

Individuals battling drug abuse should seek help from counsellors. Seeking help from counsellors will help the individual to know what triggers them to abuse drugs and also how to resist the temptation.

Individuals should avoid places where drugs and alcohol will be available, this will help the individual to resist the urge to abuse drugs.

PREVENTING DRUG ABUSE AMONGST TEENS

Parents should know the activities of their teens and their where about. This will help parents keep an eye on their teens and know the activities they are involved in.

Knowing the friends of the teenager and the kind of people they are involved with will help prevent the abuse of drugs.
