Traffic on high way may consist of pesdestrians, herded animals, vehicles and other conveyances. But now in Ghana, traffic sites have become a commecial advantage for businesses.
Items normaly sold there includes, windscreen wiper blades, frozen ice cream, sachet of purified water, fried plantain chips, framed pictures also bread and bush meat, many others. These sellers say they earn more at these traffic and toll areas than hawking around the market squares. One particular vendor who has worked over there for the past four years, Kofi Acheampong said he earns as much as Ghc 200 from his bread business, espercially on lucky days. But these vendors bare so many risks when running their business at these areas.
Running after vehichles on the highway is very dangerous, but these vendors say they have no choice because that is what they highly depend on.Another problem they face is thier struggling for transaction especially when passengers buy items with huge notes.Though it happens once in a while, both the seller and passenger can loose thier money.
One thing these venders ignore but very serious when it comes to health,is the fumes exhusting from vehichles which leads to breathing related diseases.
Drivers are also complaining ,these hawkers are the primary cause of traffic congession and their behaviour of running after vehicles can result accident.
