Passengers who use the canoe as a means of transport run the risk of drowning in the Weija dam. This is as a result of the unavailability of life jackets.
Passengers-children inclusive, who board this canoe endanger their lives especially as the waters are deep at this time. Some of the turbines are opened when the dam itself gets full thus, increasing the deepness of the water.
Adults and children are being charged GH 1.00 and GH 50p respectively. More dangerous is the fact that passengers commit their safety in the hands of a single boatman. And these boatmen on some days drink themselves to stupor.
The provision of the life jackets can help ensure the safe passage of these passengers across the Weija dam.
As published in 2018 by PinkFm, there was a report on the unavailability of life jackets for passengers. Despite this report, presently, nothing has been done about it.
In any event, the passengers hope for a safer means of transport across the dam.
