SHOW US SOME MERCY! TRADERS ON GOVERNMENT FOR HELP

Traders at the Mokola and Kaneshie markets in Accra, are complaining about their inability to buy more goods to sell and even if they do, fail to sell them out to their customers due to problems arising from increase in prices from wholesalers for the past few months. And although they do not face too many problems from the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) popularly known as “aabayei” like they used to, absolutely see no reason why they are unable to sell out more instead.

In an interview with a trader at the Mokola market, she explained “… even my customers do not come to buy from me anymore, and those who do, do not buy as much as they used to due to the increasing prices of food items in the country hence instead of making profit I end up losing because my tomatoes eventually gets rotten and I am unable to sell them out anymore …”

Madam Sherry Aryitey ended her statement by emphasizing that she is a single mother as well as majority of her colleague market women and therefore this has become a major problem for them. “How then do we take care of our families especially our kids at school when we are unable to save”? She expressed.

These market women are calling on the government to show them some mercy, so that taxes placed on each item would be reduced for both wholesalers and retailers to make selling of their items easier with a satisfactory amount of profit to assist them sustain their businesses.
