Cristiano Ronaldo is used to breaking scoring records on the pitch but his success can be valued in far more than just goals and trophies, as the Portuguese star has now reached more than 200 million followers via his various social media accounts.
Ronaldo, whose tweets are commercially valued at more than 200,000 euros each, now boasts in excess of 42 million followers on Twitter and between this and his Facebook and Instagram accounts, the 31-year-old has broken the 200 million follower mark.
The inevitable comparisons with Barcelona’s Lionel Messi are favourable to the Portuguese striker, with his Argentine nemesis trailing behind with 122 million, and it isn’t just across football that the former Manchester United striker leads the way.
NBA icon Lebron James is the American athlete with the highest number of followers but his 69 million is dwarfed by the Real Madrid No.7.
In fact, the sum total for James, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry still comes up short at 187 million.
Adding all of the MLS Twitter accounts and each of the personal accounts of the players, the total figure is still more than 80 million less than Cristiano Ronaldo’s total.
