ROBBERY ATTACKS: POLICE TASKED TO PROVIDE 24HRS PROTECTION

The Interior Ministry has hinted about a task given to the Ghana police service to provide a 24 hour maximum protection.
This was contained in a statement read by the deputy minister of interior, James Agalga at a government for the people forum at the Central Regional Capital, Cape Coast.
Reporting on the state of the country’s security, he reported that the security situation in Central Region is relatively calm and peaceful also adding that the country’s security situation is generally calm.
He therefore commended the police service for a very good job done in enforcing law and order under the year under review, which is from the first quarter of 2015 to the first quarter of 2016.
He reported that, incidence of robbery experienced a marginal increment of 290 cases to 310 cases between the first quarter of 2015 and that of 2016.
Mr. James Agalga also added that following this marginal increase in robbery cases, all regional police commanders have been tasked to institute a 24 hour patrol operations on highways and residential areas and also increase police visibility and posts in order to make easier for residents to lodge their complains as soon as possible.
The country in the first quarter of this year has witnessed various robbery cases with some victims including policemen been killed by the armed robbers.
The deputy minister, Interior, also reported that recruitment has been made in the various security services which means that, the number of police personnel has been increased.
“In 2008 when we took over, the police per citizens ratio was 1:1000 but now the numbers has increased to about 1 policeman to 700” He emphasized.
