“RETAIL LAW MUST BE CHANGED TO CONSIDER FOREIGNERS”_ SECURITY EXPERT ADVICE PARLIAMENT

International Security Expert Samuel Nana Owusu Appiah, who works with Global Intelligence, has advised parliament and government to take a second look at the law which bans foreigners from doing retail business in Ghana.

Nana Appiah stated that, Parliament should as a matter of urgency, look at the law banning people from other counties, who want to do retail business in Ghana. He expressed that, Ghana is known as a peaceful in African, therefore it doesn’t speak well of the country when its citizens engage in unnecessary fight with other nationals because of retail business.

His comments have to do with an ongoing banter between Ghana government and the Nigerian government, with regards to trading activities involving Ghanaians and their friends from Nigeria.

A statement issued by the Nigerian government indicated that, its citizens are being intimidated by Ghanaians. Ghana government also replied through the information minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah that, government is not supporting Ghanaians to intimidate any Nigerian; rather it is the Nigerian nationals who are not respecting laws in Ghana. There has been back and forth with the two countries.

“Parliament has to look at this issue again, it has been happening almost every year, one day we will not hear good news. I know GUTA doesn’t want the law to be changed, but we have to look at the security implications. These foreigner have employed a lot of people in their business, even though the law as it is now, does not permit them, but we also have to consider the employment they are giving to Ghanaians, when we sack these people now, people will lose their jobs”, Nana Appiah said on Pink Fm Omanba Pa kasa morning show
