PROMOTING INCLUSIVE GOVERNANCE, WINNER TAKES ALL SYSTEM MUST STOP OR STICK TO THE CONSTITUTIONAL DIRECTIVE

My Opinion

Democracy is a system of by the whole people typically through elected representatives. Ghana has been in democratic governance since the year 1992.

Putting everyone aside for 4 years is what the winner takes all system does, putting every other party aside and managing the country only by the ruling party.

This prevents the hearing of varying views and opinions to help make better decisions for the country.

Winner takes all system can be stopped by encouraging elections at the local government level. When local government executives are elected, the people will have the opportunity to be a part of democracy by selecting their leader having trust in the decision they make.

After elections the ruling party should appoint some officials from other political parties to occupy some ministerial positions.

Members of the opposition will then support the government that won the elections because they will be including their officials in government and the only support parties they share same political interest with.

Therefore, in encouraging  that the winner takes all system should be stopped, we do not dispute the fact that there might be some form of sabotage to make the ruling party unpopular before the people when a different party is introduced.
