“PRESIDENT AKUFFO-ADDO WILL RESTORE PEACE IN MALI” says Kojo Oppong Nkrumah

Information Minister Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has indicated that, the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo is taking pragmatic measures to resolve happenings in Mali.

Hon. Kojo Oppong expressed that, immediately the President was elected as Chairman of ECOWAS, he is doing everything possible to restore peace in Mali. “We are expecting seven African President from the sub-region and the military leaders from Mali who engineered the coup, some leaders came in yesterday, others will also come this morning, and the Police will assist us to take them to Peduase lodge for a fruitful meeting. National security Minister together with Police has put in enough security to protect all the leaders coming into the country. The President will do his best to restore peace in Mali as ECOWAS Chairman” he emphasized on Pink Fm 96.9 morning show hosted by Kusi Damoah

The President of the republic of Ghana, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo, who is also the Chairman of ECOWAS leaders, is hosting some leaders from the sub-region at Peduase lodge to address impasses in Mali, On 18 August 2020, elements of the Malian Armed Forces began a mutiny. Soldiers on pick-up trucks stormed the Soundiata military base in the town of Kati, where gunfire was exchanged before weapons were distributed from the armory and senior officers arrested.

Tanks and armoured vehicles were seen on the town’s streets, as well as military trucks heading for the capital, Bamako. The soldiers detained several government officials including the President Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta who resigned and dissolved the government. This is the country’s second coup in less than 10 years, following the 2012 coup d’état.
