Speaking to some contractors who recently started working on a gutter along the road, they shared their views. “We do not receive enough funds to purchase high quality materials. In addition they only use low quality material knowing well that it would not last”. They added that even after getting the contract, the payments delay similarly, work starts late.

Market women who use these roads to get access to kasoa complain a lot. They said that drivers charge more because the roads are really bad and bumpy. Others who live in the heart of Opeikuma are usually not accepted into some vehicles. Some taxi drivers refuse to take on passengers going to Opeikuma.

Some residents complained about the poor state of linking roads in Opeikuma

“I’ve lived here for the past 10 years and every year, they only come and grade it. Before, it was just bushes but over the years they have cut all of them down. The only thing left for them to do is to tar the roads for us. However, it does not look as though they are fixing it anytime soon”. Kukua shared.

“When it rains, going and coming particularly becomes difficult. Drivers do not want to come to these parts due to the road situation here.  And for those who agree, they charge more than the required amount. We only ask for the roads to be fixed”. Imma Isha said.

Drivers who ply the road also shared their concerns.

Driver Ato said. “My car will get in bad condition soon if I constantly use the road. The portholes are bad, the dust is too much and rains makes it difficult to move in and out”. He added that he is only human and understands the worry of the people. He only ply’s the road for this reason.

A cry for help is what these residents and drivers of Opeikuma give out to the government.
