Residents of Atonsu Monaco, a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region, could not hold their shock as they wailed over a 32year old Kofi Boateng, who was found dead in his own room.
Kofi, as he was widely known in the area, was last seen by neighbours after watching the crucial encounter between Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur at a nearby game center last Sunday.
Co-tenants of the deceased, narrating the incident to Kapital News said, Kofi, was not seen the whole of Monday, and at 11 o clock pm on Tuesday, they began to sense a strong stench from the direction of Kofi’s room.
“We saw him on Sunday, when he was walking towards the TV center to watch football. Throughout Monday, I did not set my eyes on him. Because he is calm and most times indoors, nobody thought anything negative. It was just Tuesday morning through to the evening that we were inhaling some funny scent from towards his room direction. It became so unbearable in the evening of Tuesday and that led to the suspicion to break into his room. It was so heartrending and terrifying to see Bro. Kofi lying lifelessly”. Auntie Kosua, a co-tenant narrated.
The news which broke like wild fire, attracted people from far and near who thronged the scene to witness the gloomy incident.
Police officers from the Asokwa Divisional Command visited the scene and conducted the necessary investigations into what might have caused the untimely demise of the young man.
Relatives of Kofi Boateng, after the police’s check on both the body and the household, conveyed his lifeless body to his hometown at Adubinso, near Aduman for burial.
Kofi’s younger brother, Kwame Sarpong who could not hold his tears told Kapital Radio’s Precious Adusi Poku that, his brother was unmarried.
“It is so pathetic to witness your own brother perish like this. We can’t even lay him in state, Ooh, it is so sad. He was very calm and respectful also. Though we are all humans, but my brother was a courteous dude. Adubinso, near Aduman is where we come from, so we are taking him there for an emergency burial, since the stench emanating from him is hugely unbearable”. Kwame Sarpong indicated.
The Asokwa Divisional Police command say investigations are underway to ascertain the real cause of the untimely demise of Kofi Boateng, a strong soccer fan.
