Omane Boamah replies Kufuor over Volta dev’t

Communications Minister, Omane Boamah has asked former president, John Agyekum Kufour to stop deceiving Voltarians with so called achievements he claims to have chalked in the Volta region.

He insists the people of the Volta region are aware of the development projects the Mahama-led administration has executed and will not allow themselves to be deceived by the New Patriotic Party.

President Kufuor recently accused President Mahama and the NDC of claiming projects undertaken during his tenure to buttress their claim of developing the NDC ‘world bank’.

This follows President John Mahama’s recent comments that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has nothing significant to show in terms of development in that region, despite being in power for eight years.

President Kufour in a rebuttal defended his track record, citing the Keta sea defense project, major infrastructure projects at Ho Polytechnic and other key projects, as some of his administration’s achievements.

He also accused the NDC of squandering money meant for the development of the Volta Region particularly in their handling of the Keta Sea Defense Project.

“They claim we did nothing in the Volta Region. Let’s start from Keta. The money they acquired for the sea defense wall, they squandered it. It was during my tenure that we constructed the wall.”

He also drew attention to the fact his government constructed the Ho Polytechnic and roads from Nkonya through to Dambai. “Ho Polytechnic was built by us. Even the University of Ghana envies this school. Go to Nkonya through to Dambai. We constructed all those roads in the first term of the NPP.”

But Dr Omane Boamah, speaking on Radio Gold’s ‘Alhaji Alhaji’ programme Saturday, said in terms of development, the NPP do not match the NDC government.
He claimed that the Wall project which president Kufuor was referring to was done under the Rawlings administration.

“The sea defence wall was a campaign issue in 2000. They (NPP) had said that Rawlings had brought in some money and was protecting the Sea because he is from the Volta Region.

“If President Kufuor is not going to speak to the Panama (Papers Leak) issue, then he has no right to talk about issues in the Volta region because the Volta region and the NDC has not forgotten and will never forget the ill treatment they have meted out to some NDC big wigs. Stop deceiving Ghanaians” he asserted.
