Jose Mourinho has been confirmed as Manchester United’s new manager.
The former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss has concluded his talks with United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward and agreed a deal to take charge at Old Trafford.
Mourinho, who has been out of work since being sacked by Chelsea in December, replaces Louis van Gaal, who was himself dismissed by United two days after they won the FA Cup by beating Crystal Palace 2-1 at Wembley.
The Portuguese manager has agreed personal terms with the Red Devils and will replace Louis van Gaal after he was sacked on Monday.
Mourinho’s agent Jorge Mendes has flown in for talks with Ed Woodward and a deal is close to being finalised.
This longest of long-running sagas looks set to finally to come to a close in the coming days after months and months of speculation.
