Barcelona have come to an agreement with the Brazilian Football Federation for Neymar to only play in the Olympics this summer, but not the Copa America.
The Brazilian forward was initially scheduled to play in both tournaments, with the Olympics taking place between August 3 and 21, and the Copa America between June 3 and 26.
The Catalan club have been keen to limit Neymar’s summer involvement to only one tournament, although the Brazilian Football Confederation were originally resistant.
On Wednesday, however, a club statement announced: “Barcelona thanks the Brazilian Football Confederation and its president, Marco Polo del Nero, for accepting the proposal the club made so that Neymar would only play the Olympic Games that take place between August 3 and 21.
“As a result, Neymar will be exempted from playing the Copa America that takes place in the United States between June 3 and 26.”
