NDC voter register claims defy common sense – NPP

The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) says claims by the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) that it intends to disenfranchise its supporters in the Ashanti region defies common sense.

According to the party, such wild allegations will only come from someone with a diabolical agenda ahead of the crucial general elections in November.

Ashanti Regional Secretary of the NPP, Samuel Pyne made the comment on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Thursday.

His comment was in reaction to an allegation by NDC Deputy General Secretary, Koku Anyidoho that his party had uncovered a plot by the NPP to remove names of its supporters in the Ashanti region.

He claimed that the opposition party is busily compiling a “very dubious” list of supposed dead persons that they intend to present to the Electoral Commission for such names to be deleted from the Voters Register.

“The NPP has decided to create a new Voters Register in their stronghold by disenfranchising known NDC supporters” Mr. Anyidoho declared.

But this allegation, according to the NPP Regional Secretary is borne out of malice.

“Is the NPP now the EC to remove names from the voters register? It shows he [Koku] does not know what he is about,” he added.

Conceding that the NPP has began an independent audit of the voters register in most constituencies in the Ashanti region, Mr. Samuel Pyne maintained that, they have not flouted any law.

“The voters register is a public document so anyone can have access to it. We are just making sure the right things are done,” he stressed.

Samuel Pyne said the NPP is ready to match the NDC boot-for-boot especially in the Ashanti region if they try to intimidate them.
