Nana Agradaa Convicted; fined GHS36,000 over unauthorized TV station

Patricia Asiedu popularly known as Nana Agradaa convicted and fined GHS 36,000 for operating a television stations without a license by the Accra Circuit Court.

The court presided by Justice Emmanuel Essandoh convicted and sentenced Nana Agradaa on the charge of fines. The first fine was GHS 36,000 for operating a television station without a license. In default she will serve three years imprisonment.

The second fine was GHS 10,ooo for displaying “charlatanic” materials. The charlatanic advertisement known as the (Sika Gari) is a fraud advertisement she displays on her illegal television station. In default, she will also serve one year imprisonment.

The sentences are therefore to run concurrently.

Nana Agradaa had earlier pleaded not guilty. However she later changed her plea and confirm to the charges of operating television station without any license and advertising charlatanic materials. She was then convicted and sentenced after pleading guilty in court.

Nana Agradaa was earlier arrested in 20 April this year by the Police. This was after the Police and National Security stormed the premises of her two television stations in Kasoa. The Police in collaboration with National Communications Authority (NCA) closed down both Thunder TV and Ice One TV stations. The television stations are located at Kasoa in the Central region.  The team seized the equipment used for transmission from both stations. Nana Agradaa was a spiritualist but now turned and claiming to an evangelist.
This led to the close down of the 49 television station in the country on a single day.
