The Flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has promised a government that will prioritize service to the State and people of Ghana.
Speaking on an Accra based radio station today, Nana Addo said that if leadership of the country adhered strictly to the principles of democracy as stated in Ghana’s constitution, the country would truly become the beacon of Africa.
He stated that Ghana’s woes stem from bad leadership and that the kind of democracy Ghana is practicing is well laid out on paper but woefully implemented.
“First of all systems… we have the outline on paper but the content is not there and also the quality of leadership.”
Nana Addo explained that development hinged on functional systems and strong policies and further promised that his government, should he win the elections, would have people who owe their allegiance to the people of Ghana.
“Development is a complex issue. It is because of systems and policy. That is what we should really be insisting on in this country – systems and policies. We are going to have a civil service where people rise by merit, not by cronyism.
We will have a public service were public servants sees their allegiance to the state of Ghana.”
“Governments come and go but states remain. We will have policemen, soldiers, civil servants whose mindset is that we are working for the Ghanaian people, the Ghanaian state and not necessarily for somebody who is temporary a Minister,” the NPP flagbearer added.
