Michael Essien set for Panathinaikos exit

Ghana midfielder Michael Essien is edging closer to Panathinaikos exit, according to widespread reports in Greece.

Essien, 30, has agreed to mutually terminate his contract with the Greens at the end of the current campaign.

The former Chelsea star has been restricted to only 13 appearances since joining from AC Milan.

The Ghana international has struggled to break into the team in recent times due to his problematic injuries.

According to reports, there is currently a big gulf between the club and the Ghanaian with both parties reported to have reached an agreement to mutually part ways.

Essien has been linked with a reunion with international teammate Sulley Muntari at Saudi side Al Ittihad.
