Management of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has sanctioned leader of the hospital’s senior staff association over alleged malicious comments on an Accra-based FM station.
The hospital management said Dr Charles Offei-Palm’s pronouncements on Class FM on Thursday March 17, 2016 “constitute misrepresentation of facts and peddling of falsehood”.
According to the interdiction letter signed by Korle Bu’s Director of Human Resources, Samuel Akotuah Akweri, the Specialist Pharmacist, breached the hospital’s media policy when he touched on sensitive issues during the interview.
The “Interdiction Letter” would not state the specifics of the Dr Offei-Palm’s purported false comments but states, “pronouncements made during the said interview tarnished the image of the Hospital and also brought the name of the Hospital into disrepute.”
Meanwhile, Mr. Offei Palm has been outspoken about the hospital’s management of finances that has led to shortage of drugs – especially – at the nation’s premier hospital.
The Korle Bu Senior Staff Association (KOSSA), which Dr Offei-Palm heads, has always accused the hospital’s management of financial malfeasance – claims the management denies.
Following his interdiction, Dr Offei-Palm will receive half salary every month during the period of his interdiction, according to the letter sighted by Joy News. He would also not be entitled to allowances as long as his interdiction persists.
The hospital management explains the interdiction has become necessary to allow for further investigation into the allegations he made on Class FM.
