KASOA OLD MARKET RESIDENTS AT RISK OF DISEASES

Residents of Kasoa old market in the Central Region will continue to suffer bouts of diseases if nothing is done to change the filthy nature of the area.

According to the people at the surroundings, it’s not easy when it rains. This condition creates room for mosquitoes to breed and as such, putting the lives of the people around at risk of malaria, cholera and other diseases.

This is an area where foods and food stuffs are sold. Buyers do not have any choice than to buy since that’s the only nearest market. Some people who have problems with the surroundings therefore travel all the way to Accra and a more hygienic surrounding to get their food stuff.

In an interview with a seller in the market, she said;

“The rubbish around gives us problems and diseases. When we come every morning, we sweep the place and gather the rubbish, then we all contribute 1 Ghana cedi for the Zoom Lion to collect the rubbish”.

It was reported that when Zoom Lion doesn’t come early or doesn’t come at all, they sit in the filth.

She went ahead to say that, most of the rubbish is been caused by the drivers. They sweep their cars when they come back from their journey and leave the rubbish on the floor.

A woman also stressed that, mosquitoes which are the carriers of malaria live in areas that are dirty and areas with stagnant water.

“Almost every part of this area has choked gutters with stagnant water and rubbish of all kind. Left over vegetables, fish, food and so on are dumped in the area”.
