It’s Not Easy – Guru Shares His Difficulties in Balancing Education and Music Career

Guru has openly discussed the difficulties of balancing his successful music career with his university studies.

During an interview , the Ghanaian musician born Maradona Yeboah Adjei, disclosed that he was still pursuing his education when he dropped several hit tracks.

Juggling music and academics is quite challenging, but I’ve successfully released a few songs that have done exceptionally well. Currently, ‘Eye Nwanwa’ is leading the charts, while ‘Bebree’ has also made a notable impression,” he shared.

The rapper elaborated on how he and his team find creative inspiration, drawing heavily from everyday life.

We draw inspiration from the lively atmosphere of the streets—the rhythms and sounds around us—and transform them into music. That’s how we create. While these songs lived up to our expectations, it’s worth mentioning that in some instances, the foundational ideas originated from outside sources,” he observed.

Guru also addressed speculation surrounding his track Enkoyie, featuring Benji, which many listeners perceived as politically charged due to its references to “kakistocracy.”

While the song hints at broader societal themes, Guru clarified that its primary focus wasn’t political.

“Often, our songs are built around specific concepts. In this case, I developed a narrative within a larger theme. The song actually centered on relationships, not politics,” he clarified.

Although Guru hasn’t released a full album in about six to seven years, he has confirmed his ongoing presence in the music scene, expressing a preference for releasing singles whenever he feels inspired.
