IS THIS POLITICS OR THE GOVERNMENT REALLY CARES ABOUT US?

The question citizens have been asking is ” is this politics or the government really cares about us”?

On March 12, 2020, Ghana recorded their fist two corona virus cases. Research told us, social distancing and avoiding large gathering is one of the ways of preventing the virus. The virus is diagnose after two weeks (fourteen days) of isolation. Due to this, all public gathering including schools and churches were banned till further notice and borders (land, air and sea) were closed. This was to stop people from entering and leaving the country which is also a means of reducing the spread the virus.

On 5th April, the government imposed a strict restriction on movement in some areas. Areas like Greater Accra Metropolitan,Kasoa and the Kumasi Metropolitan area and its districts. The Ministers of Gender, children and social protection and local government and rural development, and the national disaster management organization (NADMO), provided food for up to four hundred thousand (400,000) individuals and homes in the affected areas of restriction.

BACKGROUND

There was an increment in front line health workers salary, free water and 50% absorption of electricity bills for three month ( April, May and June). In mid-June, schools and religious places were opened with strict conditions and the observance of health protocols. Also, social gathering like funerals were allowed under certain conditions. Commercial vehicles were asked not to take full capacity. Hence, helping to stop the spread of the virus.

During the president’s 14th address to the nation, he extended religious gathering from 1 hour per service to 2 hours with strictly social distancing protocol and mandatory wearing of nose masks. He also stated that commercial vehicles can now operate full capacity. Thus, not observing social distancing. The question is, “is this politics or the government really cares about us?”

According to research, it was because commercial vehicles were not taking full capacity, that was the reason for the 15% increment in transport fare. Here is the case commercial vehicles can now take full capacity but transport fare is reduce just by 10%. Hereby, cheating passengers especially in this pandemic.

Is the government seeking votes from drivers, or they really cares about us?
