Is Ghana on the right path or in mere rhetoric.
Democracy is a system of government in which power and civic responsibility is exercised by adult citizens directly or through their elected representatives.
Ghana launched into the democratic era in the year 1992 under the influence of a push for a new constitution. The constitution allowed for the reintroduction of a multiparty system under the leadership of H.E Jerry John Rawlings.
Is the democracy of Ghana assessed by the Rights and Freedoms Ghanaians enjoy?, Right to peaceful assembly and association, Right to free movement in and out of the country, Freedom of speech and among others.
Do we say the ability to participate in government, choosing our leaders through ballots and free elections makes Ghana democratic enough?
The justice system of Ghana also provides citizens right to equality before the law, right to fair public hearing, giving citizens recognition as a person before the law. Can this be a measure to assess the democracy of the country?.
Considering the Rights and Freedoms Ghanaians enjoy from the 1992 constitution, is Ghana on the right path with her democracy or in mere rhetoric?.
