GOVERNMENT IS WORKING TO ESTABLISH TEN INDUSTRIAL PARKS AND SPECIAL ECONOMIC ZONES IN 10 REGIONS- MINISTER

The Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry, Robert Ahomka Lindsay has said that Government through the Ministry of Trade and Industry is working to establish ten industrial parks and special economic zones in all the 10 regions with a view to improving access to land, utilities and business support services.

According to him,the presence of these parks are likely to trigger a great interest in the development of strategic Anchor Industrial Initiatives as new growth poles for the Ghanaian economy, including the petrochemical industry, Iron and Steel, Integrated Bauxite and Aluminum Industry,Pharmaceuticals, Vehicle Assembly and Automotive Industry, Oil Palm, Garments Textiles , Chemical Industries based on Industrial salt, Industrial Starch, manufacturing of Machinery, Equipment and Machine component part.

He noted that, job creation remains the single most important challenge confronting the NPP Government and their fully committed to resolving this problem through the use of a plethora of pragmatic measures which are aimed at diversifying the economy,” he said.

Mr Ahomka Lindsay made this known at the Ghana Industrial Summit and Exhibition held at Accra International Conference Centre.

The Summit and exhibition presents them with a great opportunity to continue with their strategic engagement which seeks to leverage on the strengths of both government and the private sector for the economic advancement of the country.

He continued that, Industrialization is a pre-requisite for ensuring economic expansion leading to growth and development, job creation and improved livelihoods for the populace.

He stated categorically that, the challenges confronting the private sector in Ghana are enormous impacting negatively on the competitiveness of local industries.

This include the high cost of doing business, lack of access to medium and long term financing, high cost of capital, poor infrastructure and logistics support for industrial development, lack of skilled manpower, and limited access to technology, innovation and research development.
