EC Retains Ballot Order for 2024 Election Despite Disqualification of GFP Candidate

The Electoral Commission (EC) has decided to maintain the original ballot order for Ghana’s upcoming 2024 presidential election, even after disqualifying Philip Appiah Kubi, the replacement candidate for the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) following the passing of Akua Donkor. The announcement was made by EC Chairperson, Mrs. Jean Mensa, at an emergency Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on Tuesday, November 12.

Mrs. Mensa explained that the decision was taken to preserve the integrity and continuity of the election process, as ballot printing is already 90 percent complete. “We are here to inform you of the Commission’s decision to maintain the presidential ballot as it is,” Mrs. Mensa stated, emphasizing the importance of staying on schedule.

The disqualification of the GFP candidate arose from errors and legal irregularities on the party’s nomination forms, including the use of voters from different districts as representatives for other areas. However, the EC confirmed that the ballot layout will remain unchanged to avoid potential logistical delays.

This announcement marks a key milestone as Ghana approaches the December 7 polls, with the EC focused on ensuring a smooth, organized election process.
