DRIVER’S MATE BURNT TO DEATH AT AMOAM ACHIASE

A 26-year-old man, Wahab Sabaani, who is also a driver’s mate has been lynched and burnt to death at Amoam Achiase in the Ashanti Region.

Wahab Sabaani was attacked by mobs after the chief of the town, Nana Kusi Baabu II, shouted “armed robber” at the victim. The family of the deceased is seeking justice before they lay Wahab Sabaani to eternal rest.

The family spokesperson, Mohammed Mumuni Zakari says, “We need justice because Sabaani is never a thief. We have more than 500 youth that can testify that Sabaani is never a thief. All that we need now is justice for our brother. Currently, we can’t bury him without seeing no justice because the youth is not ready to take it.”

Myjoyonline.com reports that on the 20th of this month, Sabaani had suffered mental disability due to high fever attack and as a result left his family house unnoticed.

He was found at Amoam Achiase Palace, about 30 kilometers from home. Upon setting eyes on Sabaani, Nana Kusi Baabu II gave three warning shots before shouting “armed robber”, which attracted mobs.

The crowd lynched him, put tyre around his neck and set him ablaze. Ejisu police retrieved the body afterwards and deposited it at the Juaben Hospital morgue.

Nana Kusi Baabu II and an alleged accomplice, Akwasi Adu, have since been in police custody. They are to appear before court on the 10th of July, 2019 at the Ejisu Magistrate Court.
