Renowned and award-winning filmmaker Samuel Nyamekye, the CEO of Miracle Films, has publicly proclaimed Dr. Likee as the reigning “King” of Kumawood.
In clarifying his viewpoint, the experienced filmmaker emphasized that the film industry functions in cycles, with each period showcasing its own prominent figures.
He believes that the industry has entered the era of Dr. Likee. “In the film business, everyone has their moment, and I can assert that Dr. Likee’s time is now,” he expressed.
To emphasize his argument, Mr. Nyamekye presented a comprehensive timeline outlining the development of the Kumawood film industry.

In response to this challenge, the industry aimed to restore its prominence by elevating the late Santo as a key figure in Kumawood films.
This strategy according to him became a huge success, but after Santo’s untimely demise, the Nigerian influence resurged.
To counteract this, Mr. Nyamekye revealed that he took a bold step by elevating Agya Koo, known privately as Alex Kofi Adu, from his concert role to also become the face of the industry.
He added that Agya Koo held the mantle for over a decade, becoming a household name and driving Kumawood’s resurgence.
However, the inability of Kumawood producers to capitalize on the growing YouTube market eventually created a gap. Mr. Nyamekye acknowledged that it was Dr. Likee and his team’s innovative use of YouTube that revitalized the industry.
Through their entertaining skits and productions, they have redefined local content creation and distribution, making Dr. Likee the undisputed leader of the new wave.
