The Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon Simon Osei-Mensah has inaugurated a five-member committee to investigate what lead to the killing of suspected robbers by Police officers at Manso Nkwanta.
Seven suspected armed robbers from a Zongo Community were shot by the Ashati Regional Police on Tuesday, July 17,2018, at Manso-Kumasi.
The suspects were believed to be part of the eight robbers whose attack reportedly lead to the killing of Lance Corporal Daniel Teiku, a Police Officer with the SWAT Unit of the Ashanti Regional Police Command.
The deceased officer was on duty with his colleague when eight masked men attacked the vehicle they were travelling in at Ayirebikrom near Manso Nkwanta on July 11.
According to some Zongo youths, “Police shot seven innocent citizens”.
Relatives of the seven said the police framed the deceased persons by planting weapons on them after killing them. And insist the men were innocent but were killed in cold blood.
Following the incidence, angry youth of Manso Nkwanta demand justice for the seven innocent men who were mistakenly shot to death by the police officers.
Muntaka Mubarak, MP for the constituency called on the Vice President, Minister of National Security, Interior Minister and Attorney General to set a committee to investigate the killing of the seven innocent men and present what led to the shooting in one month in order to seek justice.
The five committee which has been set is made up of representatives from the Christian Community, Muslim community; the regional BNI as well as the Ashanti Regional Coordinating council and will be chaired by a justice of the Superior Court in the Ashanti Region.
There has been tension in the community since the killing of the suspected robbers.
