Haruna Rasheed Osman, the Nasara Coordinator for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Agona West, broke down in tears when Professor Kwesi Yankah visited him at his hospital bedside on Monday morning. Rasheed had been severely injured in a violent clash between supporters of Chris Arthur, the NPP parliamentary candidate, and those aligned with Cynthia Morrison, the incumbent MP.
“He was overwhelmed to see me,” Yankah recounted, holding Rasheed’s hand as the injured coordinator reeled in pain, his last two fingers wrapped in a blood-soaked bandage. Yankah reassured him: “We are with you. You are not alone.”
The altercation occurred on Sunday night during a confrontation between the two factions, with gunshots fired by an unidentified assailant. Rasheed recounted how he suddenly realized two of his fingers were nearly severed and pellets had lodged in the left side of his body. “If I had died, I would have died for nothing,” he lamented tearfully.
Yankah comforted him, saying, “Don’t cry, Rasheed. Agonaman and your party are fully behind you, and the doctors say you will recover soon.”
Medical staff later arrived to prepare Rasheed for surgery, adjusting his drip and asking routine questions. As he was being moved for further treatment, Yankah called for prayers for Rasheed and all those injured or traumatized by the clash.
